International Nurses Day celebrated with pomp and show

JAMMU, May 13: International Nurses Day, which marks the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale– the pioneer of modern Nursing, was celebrated today with pomp and show by various health institutions in Jammu.
Indira Gandhi Government Dental College (IGGDC) Jammu celebrated International Nurses Day for the first time in its campus. Dr Richa Gupta (HoD Prosthodontics & Dental Materials) presented the welcome address and highlighted the role of nurses in the efficient and effective working of health care system. Supervisor Nurses Reva and Anju threw light on the life and contributions of the Florence Nightingale.
Dr Parveen Akhter Lone (Principal and Dean, IGGDC Jammu), in her presidential address, emphasized the immense importance of nursing staff in the smooth functioning of health care delivery. She reiterated this year’s theme for Nursing Day declared by International Council of Nurses- “Our Nurses Our future- The Economic Power of Care”. While explaining the word Nurse, she urged the Nursing staff that word NURSE describes the professional virtues of a Nurse i.e. Noble, Understanding, Responsible, Sympathetic and Efficient.
“Every nursing official must uphold the professional values and standards of nursing which is backbone of a health care system. Nursing care is one of the important area of quality of care being provided in a health institution and must not be ignored at any cost,” she added. In her tribute to Florence Nightingale, She urged that every nursing official must inculcate the compassion, values and sense of duty to serve the ailing humanity.
On the occasion, Nursing staff of the College was honoured with mementoes of Florence Nightingale. The program was also attended by all the Heads of Departments of IGGDC Jammu viz. Dr Rubina Anjum, Dr Azhar Malik, Dr Reecha Gupta, Dr Iqbal Singh, Dr Satvinder Singh and Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr Wasik Rasool. Dental Surgeons, Nursing Staff, Gazetted and Non- Gazetted staff of the College also attended the program. The vote of thanks was presented by Bhagwan Dass Sharma.
Acharya Shri Chander College of Nusing Education (ASCCONE) Sidhra (Jammu) ASCCONE celebrated the Day to commemorate the contribution and achievement of Nurses around the world. D K Batra (Secretary ASCOMS & Hospital) was chief guest on the occasion along with Dr Pavan Malhotra (Director Principal, ASCOMS & Hospital). Guest of honor was Dr Goutam Mengi (joint secretary, ASCOMS & Hospital), special guest was Dr Sandeep Singh (Registrar, J&K Paramedical and Nursing Council Jammu) while Principal ASCCONE Prof (Dr) Indra Moza, Chief Nursing Officer Ramesh Pandita and Anita Sidhu (Chief Nursing Officer, AOI) were also present.
Dr Pavan Malhotra during his speech emphasized the importance of hardwork, compassion and professionalism in nurses. Stressing on the significance of academic excellence, he urged the students to prioritize their education to be proficient professionals in the field of nursing. Dr Sandeep Singh highlighted the significance of research in Nursing Education and encouraged the students to engage in research activities that shall further advance Nursing practices and enhance the patient care. A colourful cultural program was also organized on the occasion.
Bee Enn General Hospital, Talab Tillo Road (Jammu) celebrated International Nurses Day in an impressive function held in the Hospital premises. Speaking on the occasion, Neelam Bhalla (Trustee) emphasized the importance and role of nurses in the day to day patient care in the hospital. She encouraged the Nursing staff to be compassionate towards patients and their attendants as they are suffering and their approach and good service will help in their fast recovery.
During the function, a floral tribute was paid to Florence Nightingale. More than 80 nurses participated in the function and a number of cultural items were presented by them.
