JAMMU, May 12: International Nursing Day was celebrated today on 194th birth anniversary of Florence Nightangle- the lady with the lamp, who is considered as the founder of modern nursing.
In this connection, an impressive function was jointly organized by Nursing Association Jammu and Medical Employees Association at SMGS Hospital Jammu. The celebrations started with lighting of lamp and cake cutting ceremony, which were followed by felicitation of good workers.
On the occasion, the Nursing staff pledged to work with dedication.
Dr Dara Singh, Medical Superintendent, was chief guest in the function while Mehmooda Bano, Matron, was the guest of honour.
The function was attended by Dr Rekha Harish, Dr Indu Koul, Dr Sunil Kotwal, Dr Dev Raj Dogra, Pardeep Kumar (provincial president of Medical Employees Association), Pawan Jeet Kour (president J&K Nursing Association), Sureshta Jamwal, Gulshan Sharma, Nirmal Sethi, Sonia Shabnam and nursing staff.
A similar function was organized on International Nurses Day by All Nurses Association of Government Medical College and Associated Hospitals, Jammu at GMC Jammu.
Dr Sunanda Raina, Acting Principal of GMC Jammu, was chief guest in the function which was attended by doctors and Para-medical staff of GMC and Associated hospitals.
Dr Sunanda Raina lauded the services of Nurses in hospitals and encouraged them to do their work with more zeal and zest in the interest of hospital administration and better patient care.
President of All Nurses Association, Madhu Khajuria threw light on the importance and relevance of the day.
On the occasion, various cultural items were also presented. Vote of thanks was presented by Darshana Devi while Neelam Sharma compered the programme.
