JAMMU, Mar 8: The International Women Day was celebrated today with great enthusiasm by various organizations, educational institutions and Government departments across the State with some political and social leaders honouring women achievers and renewing demand for 33% reservation for women in legislatures.
Women officials of J&K Bank today came together to celebrate workplace equality and inclusion in the Bank on the occasion of International Day for Women. The occasion was graced by the Chairman & CEO, J&K Bank, Parvez Ahmed along with Executive President, R K Chibber, Bank’s President/CFO, Rakesh Gandotra, President, Sunil Gupta besides Bank’s Vice Presidents, Sudhir Gupta, Vinod Sharma and Shareesh Sharma.
While congratulating the women employees of the bank on the occasion, Parvez Ahmed said, “It is a day to celebrate the spirit of all women, who have played extraordinary roles in shaping their families, society and organizations with an untiring determination. Our country is one of the few places that boast of showcasing extraordinary women from very early times. The legendary women from the State also have played a dynamic role in reshaping the life of the modern day women.”
Director General of Police (DGP), Dilbag Singh today honoured seven eminent ladies from different walks of life for their achievements in their respective fields, during a function organized by Rotary Club Jammu Tawi, where he was invited as chief guest. Women honoured on the occasion were Sushma Chowhan (DC Samba), Dr Sunanda (Principal, GMC Jammu), Anuradha Gupta (Director Education Jammu), Rehana Batul (Director General Rural Development), Shivani Gupta (Deputy Manager, Mata Vashno Devi Shrine Board, Promila Mehta (Lecturer in Botany and Mitali Gupta (prominent dietician).
J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu celebrated the Day by organizing a function for female members of the Association in the High Court Complex at Jammu. Chief Justice, Kumari Gita Mittal and Justice Sindu Sharma, Sonia Gupta, Registrar Judicial and Bala Jyoti, Registrar Rules of J&K High Court, participated in the function.
Chief Justice, while speaking on the occasion, said, “The women must be put in the leadership and given opportunity to take decision. She said it has been noticed that 75% decisions of the women have been recognized. She stressed for girl education, stating that if the mother is educated then her children will grow. Justice Sindhu Sharma said stated that women should be treated as an individual on the basis of merit and not gender.
District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Jammu in collaboration with Government PG College for Women Gandhi Nagar celebrated International Women’s Day by organising a programme where Gita Mittal, Chief Justice of J&K High Court was the chief guest. Other dignitaries present on the occasion were Vinod Chatterjee Koul, District & Principal Session Judge & Chairman District Legal Services Authority Jammu; Mohd Akram Chaudhary, Member Secretary State Legal Services Authority Jammu and Nowshad A Khan, Secretary State Legal Services Authority Jammu. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Justice, Gita Mittal touched various women centric issues like dowry, sexual abuse, domestic violence, gender inequality and social inequality.
DLSA Udhampur under the chairmanship of the Secretary DLSA Sub Judge Sandeep Kour organized an awareness programme in connection with International Women’s Day at Bhaskar College of Education, Udhampur. The Secretary DLSA in his presidential remarks enlightened the gathering about the aims and objectives of celebrating the day and urged upon the students and others present on the occasion to spread maximum awareness among the masses regarding the rights of women folk as enshrined in the constitution.
The Day was also celebrated by DLSA Reasi under the chairmanship of Kamlesh Pandit (Principal District & Sessions Judge) by organizing a legal awareness camp at Mari tehsil, in collaboration with ICDS department, Reasi regarding rights of women. The camp was also attended by Anjum Ara, Secretary (Sub-Judge), District Legal Services Authority Reasi, Additional District Magistrate and others. The highlight of the occasion was the Mela organized by the ICDS Reasi displaying different activities of the ICDS department Reasi.
Women’s Day was also celebrated by DLSA Kathua, which organized a two-day function starting from March 7, under the aegis of its Chairman, Sanjeev Gupta (Principal District & Sessions Judge, Kathua) and Kausam Pandita, Chairman, Tehsil Legal Committee, Kathua. First function was organized on March 7 at CDPO Kathua, where Anganwari workers and Supervisors were apprised of their legal rights. In 2nd function held today at Government College for Women Kathua, a declamation competition was organized for students. The function was presided over by Aarti Mohan, Secretary, DLSA Kathua.
To celebrate the occasion, Tehsil Legal Services Committee (TLSC), Nowshera organized a legal awareness camp for women folk in the court complex, Nowshera under the chairmanship of Rajni Sharma, Chairman, TLSC Nowshera. Bar members, retainer lawyers and staff members were also present.
State Commission for Protection of Women and Child Rights (SCPWCR) in collaboration with Government Degree College Majalta, today organized a function to mark International Women’s Day. Highlighting the importance of the day, Special Secretary, Social Welfare Department, Rifat Arif, informed that the Government has launched one-stop facility for women and girls to seek justice against violence and any other forms of harassment. Earlier, Secretary, J&K Commission for Protection of Women and Child Rights, Lal Chand dwelt in detail about the functioning of the Commission.
BJP Mahila Morcha (BJPMM) organized International Women’s Day Prabudh Sammelan. National Vice president and prabhari of J&K BJP Mahila Morcha, Rashim Dhar Sood addressed the intellectual women on the occasion. MP Jugal Kishore Sharma, ex Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta, State general secretary Dr Narinder Singh, State president, BJPMM, Rajni Sethi and National executive member Sheela Handoo also graced the occasion. Rashim Sood, in her address, said that Modi ji has always been a vocal proponent of women empowerment.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, JKNPP president and former MLA demanded 33% reservation for women in Parliament and State Assembly. He said that for the right to equalize women in our country things are spoken but these are the only slogans that appear without reservation. He was addressing a public meeting at Jib.
To mark the International Women’s Day, a programme was organized by “BJP Mahila Morcha, Jammu (W) at Baba Palace, Jammu. The function was attended by more than 150 women from different walks of life. Anil Gupta (Senior BJP leader), Chander Mohan Gupta (Mayor JMC), Purnima Sharma (Deputy Mayor), Veenu Khanna (State secretary BJP) and Ayodhya Gupta (District president) were also present. Addressing the gathering of women, Anil Gupta said, “International Women’s Day encourages us all to reflect on the importance of gender equality, to celebrate the successes of women.”
In a function organized in connection with Women’s Day, in Srinagar, CPI (M) leader, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami advocated for equal decisions making rights for men and women and accountability of the government towards the issues confronting women. He also demanded adequate representation of women in elected bodies.
International Women’s Day was celebrated with enthusiasm in different parts of Leh district with main function held at main bazaar of Leh township. Deputy Commissioner/CEO LAHDC Leh Avny Lavasa was the chief guest and Dr Yangchan Dolma was guest of honour at the function organised jointly by All Ladakh Women’s Association of Ladakh Buddhist Association Women’s Wing, Ladakh Women Welfare Network, Ladakh Women Alliance, Anjuman-E-Imamia Women’s Wing, Christian Women Wing, Anjuman-Moin-Ul-Islam Women Wing, and J&K Cultural Academy Leh. Many local women achievers who bought laurels to the region, state and country in different fields in recent time were honoured with ‘khatags’.
An awareness programme on International Women’s Day’ was organized today by Regional Outreach Bureau (ROB), Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Field Outreach Bureau (FOB), Anantnag at Government Middle School Gorkha Nagar Jammu in the presence of Deputy Mayor Jammu Advocate Purnima Sharma. The 2nd programme was organized by ROB Jammu in collaboration with Women Welfare Organization Jammu at Environment Educational Institute, Jain Bazaar Jammu, wherein ladies used the stage to express their inner feelings before the audience. The third programme was organized by FOB, Udhampur at ICDS office Udhampur, where a seminar on women empowerment and Poshan Abhiyan was organized.
Centre for Women Studies, University of Jammu (JU) organized a lecture on the occasion. Prof Suman Jamwal, Director, Centre for Women’s Studies, JU presented welcome address. Rahul Jalali, Chairman of Federation of Press Clubs of India, was the key speaker. He delivered his lecture on the theme, “Women and Ideology of Terrorism”. Prof Shyam Narayan Lal, Head, Department of History, acted as moderator. Faculty of various departments of University, scholars and students participated in the lecture.
JU’s Post Graduate Department of Punjabi organized ‘Rubroo’ – an interaction cum felicitation programme on the occasion of International Women’s Day. Prof Anupama Vohra, Convener Publication Cell, JU, was the chief guest. In her address, she said that International Women’s Day is celebrated every year for social, political, cultural and economic achievements of women and also to immortalize the movement for women’s rights. The day also emphasizes on the importance of gender equality.
Dogra College of Education organized inter college symposium on the occasion. The theme of the symposium was “A Balance World is a Better World”. Gulchain Singh Charak, Chairman, Dogra Educational Trust was the chief guest while Swati Gupta, Secretary, DLSA Samba, was the guest of honour. Speaking on the occasion, both Gulchain Singh Charak and Swati Gupta highlighted the significance of International Women’s Day. Dr Vikesh Kumar Sharma, Principal, Dogra College of Education also spoke on the occasion.
International Women Day was celebrated in Rajiv Gandhi Memorial College of Education, Kathua by organizing Inter collegiate competitions in Essay Writing, Poster Making and Elocution. A colourful cultural programme was also organized. Anu Dogra (Chairperson) and many others shared their views on women empowerment. Dr G P Sachdev, Principal of the College and staff members also attended the function.
Lal Bahadur Shastri College of Education, Rajbagh (Kathua) organized a debate competition under the aegis of NYK, Kathua to celebrate the Day. Chief guest, Aruna Sharma (DEPO Kathua), chairperson of College, Shakti Kohli, Director of College, Himanshu Kohli, Incharge Principal, Brij Kohli along with staff members were present. The chief guest and College Principal highlighted the role of women in nation development. The cultural dance presented by Param, Shiwani and Sakshi was the center of attraction.
Tariq College of Education Rajouri celebrated International Women’s Day in which Yasmeen Kosour, National Judo Coach, Shushma Kumari, Incharge Woman Cell Police Station and Rabia Qureshi, Municipal Counsellor talked about the contributions of women in society.
An awareness rally and door to door campaign on issues confronting women was taken out by the students of K C College of Education to mark the celebrations of Women’s Day. The students visited a nearby locality and apprised the residents there about different issues of women like health & hygiene, literacy, female foeticide and domestic violence.
Sant Mela Singh College of Education, Digiana celebrated the Day by organizing an essay writing competition on the topic ‘Gender Equality for Betterment of Society’. Apart from this a Rangoli competition was also organized.
Bhaskar Degree College, Udhampur organized a debate on the topic ‘Women Empowerment-a hoax or reality’ wherein different speakers talked about ways to empower women.
Sai Shyam College of Education, Ghou Manhasan, celebrated the occasion by organizing a programme in which the women living around the college participated. On this occasion, Dr Usha Tickoo, College Principal shared her views on issues like women empowerment, education, health-nutrition etc.
International Women’s Day was celebrated by IECS Polytechnic, Purkhoo where a seminar was organized on the topic ‘Role of Women in Present Scenario’ and students talked on crucial role of women in different fields at present.
Ramisht College of Education organized a programme to celebrate International Women’s Day wherein different speakers stressed upon recognizing and honouring the achievements of women.
Government Degree College, Bishnah celebrated International Women’s Day by organizing a symposium and collage making competition on the topics ‘Contribution of Women in the Development of Society’ and ‘Multidimensional role of Women’ respectively.
Jammu Sanskriti School, Kathua organized a function in this connection to recognize and honour the achievements of women.
National Progressive Youth Organisation and SVS Degree College for Women organized a workshop on gender issues to mark the International Women’s Day. On this occasion Jyoti Sharma, Advocate, J&K High Court apprised the audience regarding laws to safeguard women interests and rights.
NSS units in collaboration with Women Development Cell of Government College for Women (GCW) Udhampur organized an interactive session on the topic “Women Rights and Empowerment” to celebrate the occasion. Prof Subhash Chander, Principal of the College, in his address to the students, said that Women have been integral to any socio-cultural development that the civilizations across the world have witnessed. “It is a day to understand that any injustice to women is actually an injustice to humanity,” he added.
Women Development Cell of GCOE in collaboration with NSS unit of GCOE celebrated International Women’s Day. Chief guest on the occasion was Monika Kohli, Counsel of CBI, SBI and JDA in High Court, Jammu. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest focused on women’s rights and highlighted how women should stand up for their rights and contribute to empower the one who needs to be empowered.
International Women’s Day was celebrated at GCW Parade and a cultural programme was organized there. The guest of honor for the event was DSP Shashi Thakur. Few inspirational students were felicitated. Later a painting competition was also organized on the theme of importance of women in society.
Government MAM College, Jammu celebrated International Women’s Day wherein a function was organized by the NSS and NCC wings of the College. Speaking on the occasion, the students expressed their views regarding achievement of women, awareness against bias, gender balanced world, taking action for inequality etc.
GDC Thannamandi celebrated International Women’s Day in collaboration with Women Empowerment Cell of the College. Apart from cultural programmes, a lecture on the topic ‘Working women, their health and family responsibility’ was delivered by Prof Fatima Qazi.
Government PG College Rajouri celebrated International Women’s Day by organizing sports events like Tug of War, Race Competition etc wherein a large number of girls from different semesters of UG and PG classes participated.
Government Degree College, Samba celebrated the Day by organizing a programme where Diksha Manhas and Shavi Gupta made the audience aware about the importance of role of women in society worldwide.
An exchange exhibition of art work done by the children of Art School Novocheboksarsk, Russia and KC Public School (KCPS) Jammu was put up on the International Women’s Day today in the Art Gallery of KCPS. The theme of the art work done by children of two countries is ‘Smile to A Woman’. The exhibition was formally inaugurated by Vinakshi Koul, General Manager, JKTDC. Raju Chowdhary, Chairman of KC Educational Society and Arti Chowdhary, Managing Director of the School were also present.
International Women’s Day was celebrated in Delhi Public School Nagbani, Jammu – (West) today. The programme began with a dance drama depicting the power of women not only enthralled everyone but made them realize the great power women have for the well being of family and society. Amargyan Institute of Computer Science & Technology, Gandhi Nagar celebrated International Women’s Day wherein Lead Bank District Manager Jammu, Bhupinder Singh; Chief Manager, Lead Bank, Vijay Bhardwaj and Financial Literacy Counsellor, R L Lochan interacted with women trainees undergoing training of Domestic Data Entry Operator under the ages of J&K Skill Development Mission PMKVY scheme and guided them for self employment after getting financial assistance from the Banks.
Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy (SKPA) Udhampur celebrated the Day in collaboration with J&K Football Association and Sports Wing of Armed Police Headquarters. Mohd Sulaiman Salaria (ADGP) Director SKPA Udhampur was the chief guest on the occasion and Ramesh Chander, vice president, J&K Football Association was the guest of honour. In his inaugural address, the Director Police Academy, highlighted the importance and history behind the celebration of International Women’s Day. On the occasion, a football match was organized between Red and Yellow teams of trainees.
To mark the occasion, a programme was organized in the premises of Group Centre CRPF Bantalab. The families of the martyrs residing in the Jammu region were specially invited by CRPF during the event. The ambience became emotional when CRPF honoured and gave presents to the kins of the martyrs of the Force and expressed its gratitude towards them. During the event, a short film speaking about the valour of the Force was also shown.
A painting competition and interactive session was organized by Army at Kalsiyan, Rajouri for women of all ages and groups to commemorate the International Women’s Day. The event was attended by large number of women and girls hailing from local villages of the region. An interactive session was also organised wherein issues pertaining to women welfare and Government initiatives for equal rights for women were discussed. A medical camp was also organized wherein apart from distribution of medicines, the guidelines of a healthy and fruitful life were also disseminated to the audience.
To celebrate the occasion, Financial Inclusion & Insurance Department, J&K Grameen Bank under the chairmanship of Janak Raj Angural and in collaboration with NABARD organized four financial literacy & awareness programmes through branch offices Paloura, Bantalab, Dhobiwan and Kunzer under district Jammu and Bandipora. During these camps, the women were briefed about various social security schemes and other services like mobile banking.
Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Leh in collaboration with ICDS Kharu celebrated the occasion at Leh under the chairmanship of District Programme Officer Kunzes Angmo. District Social Welfare Officer Tashi Chosdol was the guest of honour. On the occasion, the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojna and Poshan Pakhwada were also inaugurated. Poshan mela was also organised during the event. Similarly, International Women’s Day was celebrated at Anganwadi Center Mud, Changthang and ICDS Durbuk.
J&K Skill Development Mission celebrated International Women’s Day at its various skill training centres operating across the State. In order to bring awareness on different women issues and appreciate the courage of women, JKSDM organized programs such as debates and cultural programs across the State. Team of J&K Skill Development Mission including its Mission Director visited some of the training centres in Jammu and participated in the programs.
International Women’s Day was also celebrated at New India Assurance Company (NIAC) wherein a function was organized to highlight the contributions of women employees of NIAC in the field of general insurance. The women employees of NIAC were also felicitated on this occasion.
International Women’s Day was celebrated at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi and a programme was organized wherein different speakers highlighted the extraordinary contributions of women in the development of society.
On International Women’s Day, Sub Division Magistrate Ghagwal, Ritu Mahajan flagged off an awareness rally to highlight women issues and rights.
A programme on International Women’s Day was conducted at Brahmakumaris’ main centre located at 248 A, BC Road, Jammu. Kanta Rakwal, Joint Director, Handloom Department Jammu, who was the chief guest, share her thoughts on women empowerment. SP Rakwal, Additional Secretary, J&K Government, was the guest of honour. BK Naina in her keynote speech threw light on the importance of the Day. She conducted the mass meditation for the whole gathering through the guided commentary. BK Sudershan Didi, Director, Brahmakumaris, Jammu, in her address, focused on the values and qualities of the soul in order to have a value based society.
SOS Children’s Villages of India celebrated the vision of advancing gender equality, with day-long celebrations across 33 communities in India, being supported under SOS India’s Family Strengthening Programme (FSP). Satpal Karlupia, Corporator, Ward No 32, was the chief guest while Santosh Basotra, chairperson, Lalded Women Society, Jammu, was also present. Both dignitaries shared their views and ideas about women empowerment. A team from Lalded women society presented a nukkad highlighting the theme of the day.
Aadarsh Bhartiya Samaj celebrated ‘International Women Day’ at Bhour Camp. On the occasion, Ex-Subedar Tek Chand Raina, said that the role of woman on this earth is great as she plays different roles in life of men. He appealed all to take pledge on the occasion that whatever be the relations the women will be given due respect always and everywhere.
To celebrate the occasion, a convention was held at Jammu which was presided over by Zareena Madan. President, JKCCTU, while addressing the convention, explained the importance of Women’s Day, its relevance and the need to fights for the women’s rights. He also explained the present Neo- liberal anti-working class policies and its impact on working women. The JKCCTU leaders pledged to fight for 33% reservation for women in Parliament and State assemblies.
In connection with International Women’s Day, fitness expert, Pavit Kour, Director of BASTE Space of Performing Arts organized a fitness session for women and kids at Sidhra, Tawi Vihar Colony, Jammu. This first of its kind event organised in Jammu was aimed to empower women and introduce them to the world of fitness and healthy living. Corporator, Shama Akhtar was the chief guest at the event.
Nami Dogri Sanstha, organised a programme at Katra to celebrate International Women’s Day and daughter of the soil, Dr Samia Mohan was honoured on this occasion with International Women’s Award-2019.
In connection with International Women’s Day, a one-day free workshop on makeup was organized today at Lakme Academy, Jammu for the students aspiring to make their career in beauty industry. During the workshop, students were given tips on makeup by all India certified trainers of Lakme. For workshop, participation certificate was also provided by Lakme Academy Jammu to the students. The workshop was hosted by Navneet Kukreja.
