International Youth Day observed by various educational institutions

JAMMU, Aug 12: The 16th International Youth Day was observed today at various educational institutions across the State.
Red Ribbon Club of GGM Science College, Jammu in collaboration with J&K State Aids Prevention and Control Society today observed International Youth Day in college premises. 40 participants from 18 colleges of Jammu district participated in the programme, which was inaugurated by chief guest, Dr Sameer Matoo, Director, J&K State Aids Prevention and Control Society. During the programme, a poster making competition and a seminar on the theme ‘the role of youth towards the society in the prevention of HIV/Aids’ were held.
The students and the staff members of Government MAM College Jammu observed International Youth Day by organizing a poster making competition on the theme ‘HIV/Aids’ was conducted under the ages of Red Ribbon Club of the college. Sachin Sharma and Sanchit Sharma of BA Part-I stood 1st and 2nd, respectively in the competition. Principal, Prof (Dr) Romesh Chander distributed prizes among the winner students.
The Red Ribbon Club of Government College of Education, Jammu observed International Youth Day by organizing a programme with focus on ‘Role of youth in generating awareness on HIV/AIDS’ through various events. Principal, Prof (Dr) Kaushal Smotra, presided over the program. Kokila Kohli, a student of the college highlighted the importance of Day followed by an awareness speech on HIV/AIDS by another student, Arti Balgotra. Earlier, students also participated in poster making competition on “HIV/AIDS awareness”.
The International Youth Day was also observed at Government Degree College (GDC), Samba with students taking a pledge to spread awareness about drug abuse and HIV/AIDS A large number of students and staff wearing Red Ribbon formed a chain to spread awareness about illegal drug use, drunk driving and also solidarity of people living with HIV / AIDS. A collage competition regarding HIV/AIDS was also held in which ten students participated in competition.
GDC Thannamandi under the banner of Red Ribbon club of the college observed International Youth Day by organizing a quiz competition and extension lecturer. Altaf Javaid Dar, Lecturer Zoology was the guest speaker on the occasion. He delivered a detailed lecture on the importance of the day. In the Quiz competition five teams of different classes participated. Earlier, the programme started with the recitation of the few verses of the Holy Quran by Rani Mir.
On the occasion of International Youth Day, a poster making competition on the topic “Causes of AIDS, Symptoms & Prevention’ was organized by Government Girdhari Lal Dogra Memorial Degree College, Hiranagar. It was followed by a key note address by Dr Guru Prasad Sharma, Medical Officer, SDH Hiranagar and a detailed lecture on the causes symptoms and prevention of the disease by Dr Guru.
To observe International Youth Day, Red Ribbon Club of GDC Dharmari organized a symposium on ‘Role of Youth in National Integration’. A large number of students participated and expressed their views and ideas on the topic. Dr Tilak Raj Sharma, Principal of the College, while interacting with the participants asked them to play active role in uniting the people belonging to diverse cultures, religions, and communities in the Country.
The NCC unit and Red Ribbon Club of GDC Bhaderwah organized a seminar on the topic “AIDS/HIV, a threat to the Society” on the eve of International Youth Day. Dr Javed Iqbal, HOD Botany, presenting the keynote address highlighted various aspects of the disease and aware the students about the preventive measures. Dr Javed Iqbal, Associate NCC Officer of the college, said that there is need of every possible care to be taken collectively to uproot the evil.
On the occasion of International Youth Day, NCC girl cadets of BSF Senior Secondary School, Jammu organized a cleanliness drive in the school campus. A cleanliness pledge was also administered to the cadets, students and teachers. The events held to mark the occasion were skits, speeches, drawing competition and shram-daan. A rally on cleanliness was also taken out which passed through the school campus creating awareness among the general public regarding cleanliness.
