Intl conference on ‘achieving sustainable competitive advantages in Global Business Era’ begins at JU

Jammu, Dec 15: Stressing on the crucial role of a collaborative approach in the academic odyssey of any institution, Prof. R. D. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu called for greater interaction between higher institutions of learning so that the maximum benefit can percolate down to scholars and students.
Speaking at the inaugural function of the three-day international conference on the theme ‘Achieving Sustainable Competitive Advantage in Global Business Era’ organised by P.G. Department of Commerce (SAP-DRS III), here this morning Prof. Sharma said such interactions and collaborations can help share each others experiences.
Speaking on the ocassion, Prof. Keshav Sharma, Registrar and Dean Faculty of Business Studies, JU highlighted the relevance of ‘making money’ by following the three necessary conditions of Theory of Constraints. He also referred to The Goal, Not the Luck, etc written by Eliyahu Goldratt.
Dr. Vijay Pereira Associate Professor, University of Ports-mouth, uk gave a presentation on the topic “Doing Business in India- Seven Questions and Answers”. In his presentation, he threw light on the International business and Internationaliz-ation. He talked about Why India is interesting: Indian Advances-Envy and Suspicion, historical perspectives. He cited examples of many multinational corporations like TATA, as the largest manufacturing employer in the UK. He also referred to an example of Indian railways, which is the largest commercial employer in the world.
Dr. Gurmeet Singh, from the University of South Pacific, Fiji, dwelled upon the issues working or not working for business and mandate for sustainable competitive advantage. He further discussed the approaches to sustainable competitive advantage, viz., traditional and modern approaches. He elaborated on how traditional approaches are still relevant in modern business/economy and businesses are always talking about creating new knowledge and what globalization has done to the businesses? Further, he talked about the book titled “Does what you export matter”, technological innovation, ERP-enterprise resource planning, Qualities of a good leader, Five fatal flaws of companies. He concluded his presentation with the concept of Collaboration with other businesses.
Earlier the welcome address was presented by Prof. Neetu Andotra (SAP- Coordinator), Department of Commerce, JU while Prof. Hardeep Chahal, HoD, Conference Chair and Deputy SAP Coordinator, presented SAP Progress Report.
The conference proceeding book was also released on the occasion.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Jeevan Jyoti, Conference Co-Chair.
The inaugural was followed by the plenary session on the theme, ‘Role of Social Media in Building Brand Equity by Dr Gurmeet Singh, The University of the South Pacific, Fiji.
In addition three Parallel Technical Sessions (Viz., Service Marketing, Leadership and Learning Organization & Branding and Retailing Practices) were also held in which thirty-two papers were presented by the eminent researchers on various topics related to the themes of technical sessions.
More than hundred researchers and academicians belonging to various universities and institutions across India as well as abroad have been sharing their innovative ideas and fresh insights for achieving sustainable competitive advantage in the globalised business world.
