SRINAGAR, Aug 31: A three-day 3rd International Conference on Crystal Engineering: From Molecule to Crystal commenced today at Pahalgam Club.
The Conference is being jointly organized by the Department of Chemistry, University of Kashmir, and the Department of Chemical Sciences, IISER Kolkata.
The coordinators of the conference, Dr. Aijaz Dar, Assistant Professor, Kashmir University, and Prof. C. Malla Reddy, IISER Kolkata, welcomed the Eminent Scientists, Research Scholars from National and International Institutes, Universities, including those from Kashmir University.
Tthe welcome address was presented by Prof. Farooq Masoodi, Dean of Academic Affairs, KU. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Gautam R. Desiraju, Honorary Professor, IISc, Bangalore.
In his address, he comprehensively emphasized the significance of Crystal Engineering and informed us that crystal engineering has immediate implications to improve the quality of life for people in terms of better and cheaper medicines, devices, and products that will enormously help the common person in his day-to-day life.
He also informed that crystal engineering is in particular strongly developed in India and that internationally well-acclaimed Scientists have contributed to the development of the area.
Prof. Sanjit Konar, IISER Bhopal gave a detailed overview of Spin State switching in dynamic molecular crystals. Speaking at the event Prof. R. Chandrasekhar, University of Hyderabad talked about mechanophotonics as a roadmap to organic – photonic integrated circuits from nano and micro-organic solids.
Dr. Rajesh G. Gonnade, NCL Pune, Prof. Deepak Chopra, IISER Bhopal, Dr. Raghavender Medishetty, IIT Bilai, and Dr. Jose V. Parambil, IIT Patna, also delivered presentations at the technical sessions.
