JAMMU, Sept 7: Fourth International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies was celebrated today at Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar, here.
A power point presentation focusing on the theme ‘together for clean air’ was presented by Dr Parveen Yograj (Medical Superintendent, Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar). He informed that Air pollution is the biggest environmental health risk of our time and over 99% of people breathe unsafe air. He called upon everyone from Government and corporations to civil society and individuals to come together for clean air.
“Exposure to polluted air can lead to stroke, cancer, heart and lung disease and more. Pooluted air kills 6.7 million people per year and 2.4 billion people are exposed to dangerous level of house hold air pollution,” Dr Yograj claimed.
Dr Harbaksh Singh (Chief Medical Officer, Jammu) laid stress on the importance of plantation drive and shared tips to prevent air pollution while Dr Arti Nayyer (Deputy CMO Jammu) appealed all to save energy and use solar panels.
A poster colour competition was held amongst more than 120 students of ANMT School Gandhi Nagar and other affiliated paramedical institutes under the supervision of Dr Daizy Parihar (Principal, ANMT School, Gandhi Nagar). Top three position holders were awarded with a memento. First prize was bagged by Riya Gupta, 2nd by Shumta Rana and 3rd by Lakshmi.
A plantation drive was also held in the Hospital premises as part of celebrations for creating awareness about role of trees in our environment. An awareness rally was flagged off from OPD Block of the Hospital by all paramedical students and tutors, chanting slogans to prevent air pollution. The Rally passed through Gole Market and other areas of Gandhi Nagar, spreading message of clean air for blue skies.
The function was held under the supervision of Directorate of Health Services, Jammu.
