JAMMU, Dec 30: Police arrested an intra-district narcotic smuggler along with heroin worth Rs 40,000 from Rajiv Nagar area, falling under the jurisdiction of Narwal police post.
As per police sources, on specific information, police team laid a naka near Rajiv Nagar and asked a pedestrian to stop for checking as he was moving in the area under suspicious circumstances.
On seeing police cops approaching him, the man tried to escape, but was chased and nabbed near some distance from the naka point.
During checking, police recovered 5 grams of heroin worth Rs 40,000 from the possession of the person and arrested him.
The accused has been identified as Jailo, son of Roshan Lal, a resident of Rajiv Nagar. During questioning, the accused revealed that he brings heroin from the neighbouring states and sell it among the youths to make them drug addicts.
With the arrest of the accused, police has achieved a major success of controlling the spread of menace of drug abuse in the Rajiv Nagar and its surrounding areas.
A case under FIR Number 305/15 under Section 8/21/22 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at police station Bahu Fort and investigation started.
The arrest was made by Incharge Narwal police post SI Mehmood Ahmed and SHO Bahu Fort police station Inspector Kuldeep Khajuria under the supervision of SDPO East Mohammad Rafiq Manhas, SP South Shaazad Salaria and SSP Jammu Uttam Chand.
