NEW DELHI : The Supreme Court today cleared former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President N Srinivasan of all charges in the Indian Premier League (IPL) betting and fixing scam.
“The cover-up allegations against N Srinivasan in IPL corruption case were not true,” a bench, headed by Justice T S Thakur, said.
Striking down the rule of 6.2.4 of the BCCI, the apex court said Srinivasan could not hold an IPL team. The top court observed that Srinivasan’s son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan and one of the owners of Rajasthan Royals Raj Kundra were involved in betting. The Supreme Court asked BCCI to set up a report committee to look into the aspects of betting, match fixing and other issues arising out of the IPL issue. The top court observed that the Mukul Mudgal committee, which was constituted to look into the IPL case, followed all rules and proved all the charges against Kundra. (AGENCIES)
