Irate mob forcibly snaps power supply to Vijaypur town

JAMMU, Aug 17: To protest against the PDD authorities’ action to supply the power in a particular area during the power cut timing to facilitate the National Conference activists to hold the meeting in the town tonight, the irate youth of the Vijaypur made their forcible entry into the Receiving Station and snapped the power supply to the entire town in protest.

With the action of the irate youth the entire township and surrounding areas of Vijaypur plunged into complete darkness for a long time tonight.

According to reports the NC activists were going to hold the meeting from 9 pm to 10 pm to night at Laxmi Mandir when the power supply as per schedule was to remain off. However the Party activists approached the PDD officials and got the power supply restored in the particular locality to facilitate the partymen to hold the meeting smoothly. This was strongly opposed by the local youth who forcibly trooped inside the Receiving Station in the town and snapped the power supply to the area saying that either the light be restored to entire town or not to any particular area.

The protestors also alleged that they have been facing acute power crisis for over last 20 days and warned to launch agitation.

Later again the PDD officials tried to restore the power supply in the locality where the NC was holding the meeting but the agitating mob again snapped the link and held a demonstration in the town.

Meanwhile power supply remained off in various localities of Jammu today for entire day resulting in a lot of resentment among the people.

The people in Rehari Colony alleged that the power supply remained off for entire day. Same was alleged by residents of Paloura Top, Tope, Janipur, Bhawani Nagar, Indira Colony and other localities who were facing power cut for hours together.

While in Rehari area the authorities failed to restore the light since 11 am, the people in Janipur, Bhawani Nagar and Indira Colony said that all these localities have plunged into complete darkness for last four hours and PDD has failed to restore the power supply.

They said that three transformers in various localities have been damaged and authorities failed to restore them

In Surya Vihar Anand Nagar Bohri where the power transformer developed a snag yesterday was replaced by another transformer this evening but soon it was put to test it also developed a snag generating a lot of public resentment.

The Rashtrawadi Shiv Sena leader Vikas Dewan said that people in the area have been constantly facing the power crisis and authorities have failed to better the power supply in the area.
