Irate parents, students, others continue protest over NIT issue

JAMMU, Apr 9: The irate parents, students and other organizations continued their protest against the NIT Srinagar incident.
The angry parents and NIT Srinagar students assembled outside Exhibition Ground near Press Club this evening and held protest.
They raised slogans against the Government and demanded security cover to non-Kashmiri students studying in NIT Srinagar.
They also demanded action against the erring police personnel, who cane-charged their children (non-Kashmiri) without any fault, resulting into injuries and hospitalization of large number of students. The parents also demanded revocation of FIRs against nationalist students’ vis-à-vis shifting of NIT from Srinagar.
“Cane-charge by security personnel over nationalist students clearly indicates that the latter support the anti-national elements openly”, they added.
College and school students of Udhampur boycotted their classes and held protest demonstrating. They blocked the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway at Jakhani for several hours in favour of the non-Kashmir NIT Srinagar students, who were brutally lathi-charged by police.
The students opposed the anti-national factor increasing with speed in the country as NIT issue is among those results. They demanded immediate action against the erring police personnel and time bound inquiry into the matter.
Chamber of Commerce and Industry held a meeting under the chairmanship of its President Rakesh Gupta. While speaking, Gupta expressed extreme displeasure over the handling of the entire issue by the Administration of NIT.
Gupta demanded immediate FIR against the anti-national students, who were the root cause to this whole episode, in-depth inquiry in the role of NIT administration, withdrawal of FIR against the nationalist students and suspension of the police officers and personals involved in brutal action inside the campus.
He appealed the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to take all these incidents very seriously and take urgent corrective measures and at the same time appealed all the NIT students to feel safe and secured and devote their time towards their studies as the exams are approaching fast.
Sham Lal Langer, Senior Vice President, Deepak Aggarwal, Junior Vice President, Arun Gupta, Secretary General, Rahul Mahajan, Secretary and Ashu Gupta, Treasurer were also present.
Dogra Front and Shiv Sena (AG) workers under the leadership of its President Ashok Gupta took out a procession and demanded shifting of the NIT campus from Srinagar to Jammu. Meanwhile, a delegation of students from NIT met Ashok Gupta and demanded immediate shifting of NIT from Srinagar to Jammu so that they can complete their education without any fear.
State President, Akhil Bhartiya Kshatriya Mahasabha (ABKM) Ravi Singh Slathia while addressing a press conference condemned the NIT incident and asked the Government to fulfill all genuine demands of non-Kashmiri students. State Vice President of ABKM Amrik Singh Karamyogi, State executive members Rameshwar Singh Manhas, Ajit Singh, Rashpal Singh Chib, Dalbir Singh, Ricky Rajput and Kuljeet Singh Manhas were also present.
State President, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Syed Ahmed Nabi Forah condemned the NIT incident at Srinagar. He advised the students’ community in general and NIT students in particular to desist from playing in the hands of those who have vested interests and want to divide the country on communal and religious lines. He also appealed to political parties in general and congress and NC in particular not to play with the future of the students for their petty interests.
AMCCC held a meeting under the chairmanship of its Youth President Ravinder Pandita and condemned the role of State Government and Administration regarding the episode which happened at NIT Srinagar. The participants asked Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani to take strict action against all those who are responsible for creating tension in the institute.
