KATHUA, Jan 1: The Jammu -Pathankote National Highway was blocked at two places for about one and a half hour respectively by the irate people of Chandadyal and Bhagyal.
As per reports the irate residents of Chandadyal 21 kms from here blocked the NH at Chadwal in protest against the shifting of a wine shop from National Highway at Chadwal to Chandadyal road.
The protesters shouting slogans against the authorities for opening of wine shop marched to Chadwal and blocked the National Highway there for one and a half hour this afternoon.
They warned that they will not allow the opening of the wine shop on the local road as it will have an adverse effect on the villagers and the children. They demanded that the wine shop be shifted far away from the localities.
The authorities in light of High Court directives of shifting the wine shop away from Highway had ordered the shifting of a wine shop from NH at Chadwal to another area. As the wine shop owners were trying to open the shop on Chandadyal road the villagers rushed to the spot and protested. They later marched to NH and blocked it.
The road blockade was lifted and people dispersed after the assurance of the Tehsildar Hiranagar that the wine shop will not be opened at this place.
Another protest was held by the irate residents of Bhagyal 10 mks from here against the power crisis in the area.
The protesters also blocked the NH for one and a half hour and demanded that the transformer be immediately installed in the area which has been damaged 18 days back. They said that the village is without power for last 18 days and the authorities of the PDD have failed to respond to their repeated pleas forcing them to come to streets.
Later on the intervention of the SDPO Headquarters Kathua and AEE PDD, Kathua who assured them that the transformer will be installed by the evening the protesters dispersed. There was a huge jam on Highway upto many kilometers and commuters traveling in public and private transport were put to many hardships as no vehicle was allowed to pass during the time of road blockades at both the places.
