KATHUA, June 7: The irate people held a protest demonstration at  Basohli Main Chowk near Bus Stand blocking Basholi, Kathua and Bani and other link roads in protest against the water scarcity in the area today.
The protestors raising slogans against the PHE Department and the Government said that despite their pleas to higher authorities, they failed to restore the water supply in the town which is facing complete water scarcity for a fortnight now.
The protestors said that water crisis have taken such a critical turn that people don’t get even a single drop of water and for cooking meals they have to fetch the water from a long distance in this hot Summer.
The protestors accused the PHE authorities of their total failure in taking the cognizance of the situation created due to the water crisis in the area and held them responsible for forcing the people to road blockade.
They said that the authorities of PHE did not take any step in supplying the water tanker to the area. The protestors said whenever they are making a complaint before PHE authorities regarding water scarcity or disruption in water supply instead of looking into the problem they (authorities) blame PDD for the same saying that water supply remained affected due to power cut. This is a lame excuse and the two departments have sort out the issue instead of making public to suffer for the same.
The traffic movement was disrupted on the busy roads for two hours from 12 noon to 2 pm and later it was only after the intervention of SHO Basohli and AEE PHE who assured the people that water supply will be restored by the morning, the road blockade was lifted.
