JAMMU, Aug 28: The irate residents of Hatli village today blocked the Kathua – Kali Bari road near D C Office in protest against scarcity of drinking water in the area.
A large number of people mostly women squatted on the road and paralyzed the movement of vehicular traffic for more than one hour.
The protesters raising slogans against the administration and PHE Department alleged that they were facing acute shortage of drinking water for a long time and despite taking the issue with the concerned authorities several times no attention was paid to solve the problem.
They said the callousness of the authorities have forced the people to drink the impure water of a nullah as the PHE Department has failed to solve the problem.
Later the PHE officers including Executive Engineer and AEE along with DySP Headquarters Kathua , Shamsher Singh Samyal and Tehsildar Avtar Singh Jasrotia reached the spot and pacified the protesters.
The PHE officers informed them that they have submitted a proposal for construction for a tube well to higher authorities and after its approval the tenders will be issued for its construction. They said the filtration plant has already been established in the area. On this assurance people lifted the road blockade.
