JAMMU, May 8: As a mark of respect to the founder of Red Cross Movement, Sir Jean Henry Dunant, Indian Red Cross Societies (IRCS) here today celebrated World Red Cross Day at Red Cross Bhawan in Kachi Chawni.
Theme of World Red Cross Day 2022 is “#BEHUMANKIND” which endorses the power of humanity by spreading the message on being human and be kind now and in future as well be our social responsibility.
The function started with hoisting of Red Cross flag by chief guest, Ramesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner cum Chairman IRCS Jammu Region; Sat Pal Sharma, Hony. Secretary, IRCS Jammu Region; Kuldeep Handa, SP Jammu and Rakesh Dubey, Additional Deputy Commissioner Jammu.
This was followed by Red Cross pledge and prayer by the gathering led by students of Govt. Middle School, Kachi Chawni with team of Yash Paul Yash and eminent people from the society including the team of Executive Members of IRCS Jammu Region and other Districts.
Floral Tribute were also paid to Sir Jean Henry Dunant by Ramesh Kumar, Sat Pal Sharma and the Executive Committee Members Sanjay Bansal, Anil Kapahi, D.K Kapoor, Dr. Ramesh Gupta, Neeraj Anand, Deepak Khajuria, Prof. Sunil Uppal and Deepak Gupta.
The chief guest was presented with bouquet and badge by Sat Pal Sharma.
The programme started with lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the chief guest and the other dignitaries.
Sat Pal Sharma, Secretary IRCS delivered welcome address.
Cultural items were presented by the students of Carmel Convent School, Kunjwani and Red Cross Song by students of Govt. Girls High School, Kachi Chawni.
Doctors and volunteers who attended 2 days First-Aid Orientation and TRIAGE programme were facilitated by the chief guest.
Five sewing machines for further distribution to the widows of BPL families already identified by their respective districts along with search/rescue kits were also distributed to all the District Branches of Jammu Division to make Red Cross Volunteers well equipped enabling them to utilize their services during any disasters in their respective districts for disaster preparedness.
Moreover, Sewing Machines were distributed to 15 women from Jammu District to give them financial independence enhancing their skill.
In addition to this, World Red Cross Day was celebrated by organizing First-Aid Awareness camps at SMVD University, Katra, in office of Hospitality and Protocol Jammu, SMVDU, by BEE ENN Nursing students and others.
A medical checkup camp was organized at Pragwal by Indian Army on this day, Blood Donation Camps at Hotel Radisson Blu and Sant Nirankari Bhawan, Shastri Nagar, Jammu during the week to commemorate the Birth Anniversary of Sir Jean Henry Dunant.
Sat Pal Sharma presented vote of thanks.
The programme was anchored by Dr. Navneet Kour, Founder and Chairman NGO Support and Dr. Shelly Mahajan, M.D Anaesthesia, Medical Officer, IRCS Jammu Region.
