JAMMU, July 31: J&K BJP senior leader and councillor from Ward No. 41 Sanjay Kumar Baru along with Irrigation Department officials visited various localities of Ward No. 41 under Jammu West Assembly constituency to take cognizance of various unattended canals and sub canals in the area.
Irrigation JE Bhanu Khajuria, JMC Ward supervisor William Massih, Nigran Sanjay Sharma and others also toured the Ward on occasion.
Sanjay Kumar Baru, while inspecting the canals and sub-canals during the tour, stressed that while we are planning to ensure all the facilities of the smart cities and envisioning the ODF cities, “We must also take proper cognizance of various canals which have turned into dumping yards in the respective supplied areas. The canals are not being attended by any of the departments’’, he added.
Sanjay said that no de-silting of the sub canals has taken place since past many years and even in the case of main canal on the main link road from BSF Paloura to Anand Nagar, the de-silting is not effective on ground to provide any relief to the local residents. Also, the councillor mentioned that all the persons have to manually dig up the sub-canals from the main canal to irrigate their fields which often gets blocked creating much mess on the road.
Sanjay Baru also mentioned that the matter has also been taken up in the house for the due consideration of the JMC. He also suggested that Irrigation Department and Municipality must join hands to come on an amicable solution for the problem related these canals and sub-canals so as to make them useful and beautiful in the city. He also remarked that same issue is witnessed in other wards as well beginning from Domana area. Earlier the councillor had suggested turning the canals and sub-canals into two way channels which could provide a viable solution to the issue.
