Pampore, Nov 4: Government today assured the growers that around 50 bore wells will be made functional by March next year so as to provide irrigation facility to the Saffron growers under National Saffron Mission (NSM).
The Director Agriculture Kashmir, Mushtaq Peerzada said that the bore wells are meant for boosting the saffron cultivation under Rs 400 crore NSM project.
This was disclosed by Peerzada during a field visit of some top officials of the department and media persons who had the glimpse of blooming of saffron flowers in Pampore town of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
During the visit the team met farmers who were busy in plucking flowers in their fields and held interactive talks at several places including village Lethpora, Chandhara and Khrew and listened to their demands patiently.
The farmers were satisfied with the implementation of National Saffron Mission (NSM) by the department, but complained that irrigation facilities were not provided to them, which was a component of NSM while as some farmers from Lethpora complained that they were not given any financial assistance under NSM by the department.
Peerzada gave patient hearing and urged Saffron growers and others associated with the Saffron industry to take maximum benefit from the National Saffron Mission in the State and play their role to give new impetus for increasing production and productivity of the Saffron across the State.
