ISRO to launch five satellites on Dec 16

 

BELAGAVI: Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is all set to launch five satellites developed by Singapore on December 16 and other four Indian Regional Navigation Satellite Systems into space orbit next year.

Talking to newspersons here after participating in KLE society’s  100th Foundation Day celebration here, ISRO Chairman A S Kiran Kumar said, of the seven IRNSS planned and developed by ISRO, four had already started working; one each would be launched during January, February and March next year.

Mr Kumar said the PSLV, which is hailed as world’s most reliable launch vehicle, had so far launched 75 Indian satellites and 51 developed in other countries.

The Chandrayaan-1 became world’s first mission to trace water molecules on Moon, he added.

The Chairman said the ISRO’s maiden international experiment of bringing US developed satellite to the space of Indian subcontinent and facilitating Direct-To-Community services in the field of education, meteorological and various other community-based services to as many as hundreds of villages in 1975, was greatly acclaimed all over the world. he added.

Mr Kumar said, space programmes and development of satellites had brought revolutionary changes and improved quality of living. Satellites services helped in management of natural disasters like cyclones and super cyclones having devastating impact and claiming thousands of lives of human beings and other animals.

Besides, satellites helped in identifying areas for fishermen along the 7000 km of coastal length of peninsular India, thereby saving fuel and time.

He said  the space programmes played a significant role in nation’s agriculture and food production programmes.       Earlier, Mr Kumar inaugurated the 100th Foundation Day and felicitated the students on the occasion.

KLES Chairman and Rajya Sabha Member Prabhakar Kore listed out achievements of the Institution. Its President Shivanand Koujalgi was, among others, present on the occasion.   (UNI)
