Srinagar, Mar 28: The ITI Trained Casual Labourers of Jal Shakti Department (JSD) today staged a massive protest here demanding regularization of their services and also the framing of a new regularization policy.
The labourers who are working in the department for the last over 16 years said that their issue of regularization is being delayed for unknown reasons and that the Government should wake up and address their issues without any further delay
Total over 3000 in number across J&K, the labourers said that after they were appointed an order regarding their regularization was issued but to no avail.
“Even a cabinet decision has also been issued for the regularization. Then the process was started and we filed our papers. The Chief Engineer, Kashmir as well Jammu issued orders in our favour. However, nothing has been done in this regard so far,” Manzoor Ahmad Bhat who is the President of J&K Jal Sakhti (PHE) ITI-Trained Workers Association said.
The protestors urged the LG Manoj Sinha as well as the Chief Secretary to look into the issue of their regularization orders without any delay. “Because most of us have given a good number of years to the department and we have already crossed 50 years of age,” the protestors said.
They said that they have families to feed which they are finding difficult because they are not able to make the ends meet. “We will wait for one month and after that, we will be forced to come out on roads,” they said.
Fayaz Ahmad Shabnum who is heading the Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) said that the workers have been recruited as per norms and guidelines, “but for unknown reasons their issue of regularization has been delayed. Their issue should be addressed without any delay.”
