NEW DELHI/GUWAHATI, Mar 26 : It’s a fight to protect civilisation from the Congress assault and BJP will leave no stone unturned to thwart the Congress party’s design to play with the identity of Assam, simply for vote bank politics.
This was stated here today by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh, in a media interview on the eve of polling for the first phase of State Assembly election tomorrow.
Dr. Jitendra Singh said, protection of the civilization in Assam is the very first and most prominent highlight of the party’s manifesto for the election. He said, Congress Party, in its desperation, has gone to the extent of aligning with the communal outfit of Badruddin Ajmal, which is not only an affront to the people of Assam but also to the legacy of Congress leadership represented by one of its tallest leaders Late Tarun Gogoi, who was always acutely sensitive about the civilization and entity of the people of the State.
Dr. Jitendra Singh reiterated commitment made in the manifesto to undertake all the necessary steps to further take ahead the process to provide ST status to the Tea Tribes, Tai Ahom, Koch Rajbongshi Chuthiya, Moran and Matak communities, without hampering the existing reservations, rights and privileges of tribals in the State. The BJP government, in its second term, will also endeavour to create a Development Council for all the remaining tribes in Assam, he added.
At the same time, Dr. Jitendra Singh said, the political interest of the people of Assam will also be sought to be protected while protecting the civilization. For this purpose, BJP will favour a Delimitation Exercise to be undertaken in the State.
The entire region, said Dr Jitendra Singh, had been at the receiving end of annual floods happening year after year, but unfortunately, the Congress governments both at the Centre and State had not addressed the issue for decades. The BJP government has decided to launch “Mission Brahmaputra” with the intent of limiting losses to lives, livelihood and property due to annual floods. This will be sought to be accomplished multi-pronged involving the increasing of the river and building reservoirs to store extra water and distributaries.
