JAMMU, May 13: The Jammu and Kashmir administration has written to the Central Government for extension in deputation of two IAS officers, hailing from Jammu and Kashmir, while two other IAS officers are returning after completing their deputation and a senior officer posted in New Delhi has sought return to the Union Territory.
Official sources told the Excelsior that the Jammu and Kashmir administration has written to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) for extension in deputation of two IAS officers Raghav Langar and Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar who are presently posted in Jammu and Kashmir.
Langar is serving as Administrative Secretary in the Planning, Development and Monitoring Department while Asgar is the Deputy Commissioner Baramulla.
Langar is an IAS officer of 2009 batch of Uttarakhand cadre and Asgar belonged to 2013 batch of IAS having been allotted Punjab cadre.
Already extended deputation of Langar will end in October this year while that of Asgar will expire next month
“As both of them are natives of Jammu and Kashmir and have done well here on different posts, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has sought extension in their tenure,” the sources said.
However, a call on extension in deputation of two officers has to be taken by the MHA and DoPT. A decision on extending deputation of Sehrish Asgar has to be taken shortly as her deputation will expire in June.
Meanwhile, two IAS officers are reportedly returning from Jammu and Kashmir after completion of their deputation. They have reportedly not sought extension in their deputation, sources said.
A senior IAS officer posted in New Delhi has sought his return to Jammu and Kashmir from the Central deputation. A decision on his request is yet to be taken by the competent Authority, sources said.
A number of officers from different All India Services are presently on deputation to Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Moreover, after Jammu and Kashmir cadre was abolished and the two Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh were made part of AGMUT cadre, several AGMUT cadre officers were also deputed to the twin UTs.
In addition, several IAS officers, who were earlier posted in Jammu and Kashmir, have also been transferred to Ladakh. Besides, the officers of Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Services (JKAS) and Jammu and Kashmir Police Services (JKPS) have also been posted on deputation to the Union Territory of Ladakh in view of shortage of officers there.
A number of officers including natives of the two Union Territories, who were posted in other States and UTs, have also opted for the postings in J&K.
“Both the UTs of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are short of IAS and IPS officers due to different reasons but it has gradually been overcome with posting of AGMUT cadre and other IAS and IPS officers.
“Presently, a number of IAS/ IPS and JKAS/JKPS besides other officers/officials from Jammu and Kashmir have been posted in the Union Territory of Ladakh to run the affairs there. This has also resulted into shortage of officers in Jammu and Kashmir,” sources pointed out.
