Srinagar, Feb 14: With the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) scrapping the age relaxation that was given to the J&K candidates earlier, hundreds of aspirants have been caught in a fix as the majority of them have already spent huge sums on their coaching and are now staring at bleak future.
The aspirants said that they have spent huge sums for the preparation of the examination, but the notification that has come this year, has given them a blow, as they said that they were not expecting this to happen.
“This is sheer injustice with us, while the age relaxation for the other categories has remained the same, they have scrapped the relaxation which was, till last year, being given to the J&K aspirants,” the aggrieved aspirants said.
“There are certain aspirants who had earlier reached to a certain level after cracking the preliminary exam and then even mains, but were dropped out after that; such candidates had prepared more to perform even better this year, but the dropping off the age relaxation has shattered their dreams,” the aspirants rued.
While, the age relaxation for other categories will continue, UPSC, as per the latest notification issued, has announced 796 vacancies in the country’s bureaucracy to be filled through the civil services examination 2020, which will be held on May 31.
“There are so many candidates who have moved out of J&K in order to prepare better for the exam and have spent huge sums for the same; they were eligible in accordance to the age relaxation given to J&K students, now, they are not,” the aspirants said.
The candidates are saying that last time they had a Chief Minister who could plead their case before the Union Government. “…now that there is no Government in place as of now, we are appealing the Governor’s administration look into the matter,” they said, adding that if nothing was done, the career of hundreds of aspirants will be marred.
