JAMMU, Jan 10: Joint Action Committee (JAC) General Category, J&K, as a part of its continuous endeavour to garner public support and create mass awareness, today organized a day-long seminar on the theme “No Reservation in Promotions”, at Shakti Nagar, Jammu.
A huge gathering comprising of participants not only from Jammu but also from other districts of the State, were treated to thought provoking and enlightening lectures from a galaxy of dignitaries and visionaries from different walks of life, who had graced the occasion.
The speakers included Dr Shafat Kakroo, Deputy Director, Animal Husbandry, Navneet Singh, Manager Training, FCI, Jammu, Mahesh Kaul from Panun Kashmir, Prof Ayub Khan, Retd Secretary (JKBOSE), Dr Vishav Murti Shastri (Retired Principal, Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan) and many others.
The speakers spoke in length and breadth about how the concept of reservation in promotion had been allowed to develop over the years for petty political gains despite it being upheld as unconstitutional by a Constitutional Bench of the Apex Court in “Indira Sawhney” Judgment in 1992.
It was brought to fore by the speakers that the concept of reservation in promotion had never been envisaged by the founders of the Indian constitution, who believed in principal of equality and justice for all, regardless of caste, colour, creed or religion.
The speakers said that promotions after the initial appointment must be purely only on basis of merit and seniority as any deviation not only vitiates the environment of  merit and efficiency but also demoralizes the affected persons.
The founder members of the Joint Action Committee including Narayan Singh, president, Amar Kshatriya Rajput Sabha, Ved Prakash Sharma, president, Dogra Brahmin Pratinidhi Sabha and others stressed to fight tooth and nail any attempt by any political setup or organization to coerce the Government to adopt any illegal/undesirable method of vitiating the High Court Judgment.
At the end, a resolution was unanimously passed by the Joint Action Committee, seeking immediate filing of reply by Government in the Supreme Court to defend the J&K High Court Judgment.
