Jagti township facing water scarcity for one week

JAMMU, July 13: The inmates of Jagti township have expressed their serious concern over prevailing water scarcity in the town.
In a joint statement Sunil Pandita, T K Dhar, Vijay Koul, A K Sadhu, Sanjay Raina and P L Thusoo all inmates of the camp said that water supply has been totally disrupted for a week now with the result the people in the township are facing many hardships in this hot and humid Summer.
They criticised the Government for its failure in restoring the water supply to the township despite the repeated pleas. They said that since the construction of the township the inmates of Jagti have been facing the water scarcity problem especially during rainy season as the water supply gets blocked due to silt.
They said that the Government failed to take alternative measures despite knowing that the people are facing hardships for years together. Even the demand for construction of bore wells was not conceded nor steps were taken to construct a new water supply scheme for the township. They demanded that the water supply be handed over to Jalshakti Department without further delay to ensure proper supply to the area.
Meanwhile, All India Migrant Camp Coordination Committee (AIMCCC) president, Desh Rattan Pandita said that till water supply is restored the Government should press water tankers in the service so that the problem does not get aggravated in the township. He warned agitation in case immediate steps were not taken for restoration of water supply.
Pandita said huge amount is paid to the contractors for maintaining water supply to the township by the Government but they have failed to come to the expectations of the people with the result the inmates of the township are suffering.
