SRINAGAR, Sept 7: The Hurriyat Conference (G) today named jailed Massarat Alam Bhat as its Chairman after the death of Syed Ali Shah Geelani while Shabir Ahmad Shah has been elected as the Vice-Chairman.
A statement issued here read: “Massarat Alam Bhat has been elected as Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference. Shabir Ahmad Shah and Ghulam Ahmed Gulzar both elected as Vice Chairman Ghulam Ahmad Gulzar will continue running the affairs of All Parties Hurriyat Conference with regular guidelines from the Chairman.”
The statement added that Molvi Bashir Ahmed Irfani will continue as General Secretary. All other committees will keep functioning under the guidance of Vice Chairman Ghulam Ahmed Gulzar.
“This interim arrangement will continue till holding of elections as per the constitution of All Parties Hurriyat Conference as and when the situation will improve,” a Hurriyat statement reads.
