JAMMU, Jan 18: The JAK Ex-Servicemen Cooperative Store Ltd. has launched its Membership and Orientation Drive today at its factory site in Bari Brahmana, Jammu. This initiative marks a pivotal step toward the revival of the cooperative, which was originally formed in 1986 by Ex-Servicemen and Veer Naris at the SIDCO Industrial Complex. Over the years, the cooperative made significant contributions by producing high-quality agro products for both the Indian Army and the civilian population. However, due to an unjust taxation policy, the cooperative had to be put into suspended animation. Despite several efforts, bureaucratic hurdles delayed its revival.
Thanks to the leadership Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister of JK-UT, and the persistent efforts of Major General Goverdhan Singh Jamwal (Retd), Chairman of JAK Ex-Servicemen Cooperative Store Ltd., the cooperative is now being revived with support from the Department of Cooperatives and UNATI Agro Allied Multistate Marketing Cooperative Society Ltd. The Government of JK UT, including Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo and Secretary Cooperatives Babila Rakwal, has extended full support to help restore the cooperative’s operations.
At the event, Major General Jamwal addressed more than 500 Ex-Servicemen and Veer Naris, briefing them on the history and challenges faced by the cooperative and encouraging them to join this unique initiative. Brig (Dr) Vijay Sagar Dheman, Managing Director of JAK Ex-Servicemen Cooperative Store, provided insights into the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with UNATI Agro Allied Marketing Multistate Cooperative Society.
