Jammu academically conducive for Ladakhi students: Rana

JAMMU, Jan 29: Observing that Jammu has become an educational hub, especially for the students of Ladakh region, Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana today said this has mostly become possible due to enviable hospitality and conducive conditions created by the people.
“We will do whatever is required to maintain this momentum by ensuring safe, secured and homely atmosphere for young boys and girls making Jammu as their home to pursue academics”, Mr Rana told a delegation of Leh, which met him here this afternoon and apprised about various problems confronted to the area and the students.
The delegation was led by senior National Conference leader and former minister Tsetan Namgyal.
Responding to problems facing to Ladakhi student community, as listed by the delegation, the Provincial President took up the issue with Inspector General of Police Jammu and assured that all out efforts would be made at societal level to ensure that Jammu becomes safe home for the young people.The delegation also apprised the Provincial President about various other problems like air-services to the region and difficulties being faced by the rationees in the wake of implementation of Food Security Act.
The delegation comprised P. Wangdan, Councillor, LAHDC, Nazir Khan, Sr Vice President, Mohammed Usman, Cashier NC Leh besides Mohammed Ismail.
Later, a deputation of PhD Scholars also met the Provincial President and apprised him about the situation arisen in the wake of Notification issued in 2014, depriving many of them to get recruited as Lecturers.
The deputationists said that the Notification, issued in consonance with the National Education Policy, is coming in the way of their recruitment to 1,600 posts advertised by the Public Service Commission. According to the Notification, 6,000 candidates with PhD degrees, out of the total 8,000 applicants, shall fall ineligible for the advertised posts.
Describing it as detrimental to the future of entire lot of PhD candidates, Mr Rana made a fervent appeal to Governor N N Vohra to accord one time concession, on humanitarian and compassionate grounds, so that the future of young scholars is not sealed. These scholars had not been enrolled for the PhD course in accordance with the 2009 guidelines of the University Grants Commission.
The Provincial President hoped that Governor will take a compassionate view and order for the consideration of PhD scholars for recruitment to the posts of Lecturers as advertised by the PSC.
