SRINAGAR, Nov 3: The Border Security Force (BSF) Kashmir Frontier on Sunday organized “The Wular Half Marathon” in which about 700 runners from across the country participated in Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The event was held in association with the district administration of Bandipora during which approximately 700 male and female runners participated in various categories, including the Half Marathon of 10 km, and 5 km runs respectively.
Runners from across the country, including brave BSF Border men, participated in the marathon, which started from BSF Campus Bandipora and was flagged off by Inspector General BSF Kashmir Frontiers Ashok Yadav.
The event aimed to showcase Asia’s second-largest freshwater lake’s scenic beauty and significance, promoting conservation and sustainable development as a tourist destination under the logo “Save Wular, Run with Borderman”
The marathon culminated at Wular Vantage Park, Bandipora, where Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) Bandipora Nizamuddin Bhat distributed prize money to the winners.
Young boys and girls from various schools and sports academies showcased the rich culture of Kashmir through an array of vibrant cultural programs, reflecting Kashmir’s diverse heritage and talent.
The IG Yadav acknowledged the contributions of district administration, all security forces, local civilians especially women and youth, media houses, sponsors, and various local schools and organizations for making the marathon a grand success.
The event was also attended by Brig N R Babu (Retd) DIG, BSF Sector Bandipora, BSF officials, civil and forces dignitaries, and media persons.
