Jammu artist gets award, fellowship

JAMMU, Apr 1: Jasleen Singh, an emerging young artist of Jammu, was awarded Gold Medal and Fellowship by Prafulla Dahanukar Art Foundation, during `Kalanand’ Regional annual art event at Chandigarh.
Jasleen Singh was awarded for his entry in the Installation Category of the competition. Installation is a form of Sculpture Art that has become popular in the art circles. Jasleen Singh was awarded with a Gold Medal, a cash amount of Rs 50,000/- and Certificate of Fellowship.
Pertinent to mention that ‘Kalanand’ art contest has now become one of the biggest art contests in the country.
Jasleen Singh is son of Jang S Verman, a senior artist and columnist on Art & Culture and Late Gobind Kaur, 1st woman sculptor of Jammu. He has done Masters in Creative Sculpture from M S University, Baroda. He has qualified UGC NET in Visual Arts and worked as Assistant Professor/ Lecturer in Department of Fine Arts, Kurukshetra University. He has also been awarded a number of other Artist award.
