JAMMU, May 18: Dr Pinki Pargal, who originally belongs to Jammu, successfully did re-implantation of hand at forearm level at Christian Medical College and Hospital (CHC&H), Ludhiana.
A 25-year-old male from Ludhiana who was a case of assault leading to the total amputation of left hand at distal forearm level was brought in CHC&H Ludhiana. The Patient had also suffered multiple other injuries including head injury (EDH).
A team of doctors led by Dr Pink who is working as Professor & Head, Department of Plastic, Reconstructive Surgery & Burn, CMC&H Ludhiana took the challenge and the Patient was immediately taken up for re-implant procedure. His hand was re-implanted after surgery lasting 6 hours. After the procedure his hand was well vascularised and the patient is presently doing well, admitted in Plastic Surgery Ward and planned for discharge within few days.
It is pertinent to mention that very few institutions have the capability to treat such conditions. CMC Hospital is a pioneer of such microvascular surgeries.  Awareness needs to be spread among general public that amputated limbs can be salvaged provided amputated parts are brought in proper condition and within 6 hours of golden period.
