JAMMU, Nov 1: Tanmay Gupta from Jammu has created history by becoming the first from J&K to be the National Topper of NEET 2021.
He got perfect 720 out of 720 and stood at All India Rank 1 among more than 16 lakh students who appeared in the all India Medical Entrance on 12th of September 2021. He has shared the top position with three others, who also scored 100 percent marks in the exam.
Son of Dr Akshay Gupta and Dr Shivali Gupta, success story of Tanmay Gupta started after his 10th Board results. After scoring perfect 100 percent marks, both in Science and Maths in CBSE board, his parents realised that Tanmay should get an opportunity to be in more competitive environment where he can access and polish his potential while in company of students from all part of the country.
With having target to get admission in one of the best institutions of the country Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi in his mind, Tanmay left his hometown and studied 11th and 12th in Delhi, but God had different plans for him and he was blessed to be eligible to be selected in India’s top and worlds one of the best Institutions in Medical Sciences, AIIMS Delhi.
Tanmay Gupta’s father, Dr Akshay Gupta is a Professor and Head of Orthodontics at Government Dental College while his mother Dr Shivali Gupta is a Dentist by profession.
According to Tanmay, students from J&K are having as good potential as any other part of the country and only difference is that we need to think beyond being a “Contented Fish of a Pond”, in this world of globalization.
“If I can achieve this, everyone from J&K can achieve this, only thing we need to think beyond box and be consistent in our efforts. It is more important to be consistent in our studies than to increase the number of hours. I used to study 3 to 5 hours every day after school and whenever it was holiday, it used to be 7to 8 hours. I always had target for each day , and when I accomplished that, it used to give me sense of euphoria and helps me more motivated to achieve my target and to maintain and improve my work,” he said.
While studying at KC Public School Jammu till 10th standard, Tanmay had also participated and represented Jammu and Kashmir in various National Sports events in swimming.
