Jammu can’t be Smart City without Smart Bus Stand: Yudhvir Sethi

JAMMU, Aug 27: Yudhvir Sethi, Vice President Jammu and Kashmir Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has urged the Divisional Commissioner Jammu to refurbish the Old General Bus Stand area that is virtually lying in shambles after shifting the Bus Stand to newly constructed Terminal.
Asserting that Jammu City is going to be a Smart City, but without a Smart Bus Stand it could not be a smart city in letter and spirit, he suggested that the maintenance, repair and upliftment of the area be taken up under Jammu Smart City Project on priority basis.
The BJP leader was interacting with the Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar on behalf of the delegation of Traders Welfare Association, Old General Bus Stand, Jammu led by him here today.
The delegation apprised the Divisional Commissioner that there are about 160 shop-keepers having minimum 3 to 4 employees and every vendor has 1 to 2 employees. Since, the Bus Stand Terminal has been shifted to nearby newly constructed Bus Stand but maximum passengers come for purchasing and eating food at Old Bus Stand while the conditions of bus stand is in shambles. They demanded maintenance of old Bus Stand Building, immediate repair and renovation of bus stand building, installation of new benches and drinking water points, construction of retaining wall of Nallah, allot space to travel agencies operating from General Bus Stand, provide lease of pending cases of shops, etc.
Ramesh Kumar Tak, President Traders Welfare Association apprised the Divisional Commissioner that there is a complex in Bus Stand named Modern Hotel consisting of 23 shops made by KC Group and they gave the said shops to the tenants in 1980 who are doing their business in this premises till date. He requested the Divisional Commissioner that the rent may kindly be collected by JDA as the same building is in the possession of JDA since May 2017. They said that prior to this they were paying rent to the JKRTC and now request that the same rent be accepted by the JDA, Jammu. He further conveyed to the Div Com that there are 5 shops near waiting hall since the time of JKRTC which also intend to get regularized and want to deposit the rent accordingly. He urged the Divisional Commissioner to clear the pending cases of shops with regard to transfer and lease issues as all the shopkeepers have already agreed to pay the reasonable and genuine charges to JDA.
Yudhvir Sethi appealed to the Divisional Commissioner Jammu to consider genuine demands of traders.
The delegation comprised of Sudesh Suri Vice President, Rajan Gupta General Secretary, Tara Chand Secretary, Babu Ram President Taxi Union, besides Deepak Gandotra, Rishi Sharma and Pradeep, all Executive members.
