Jammu Civil Society lists suggestions to Parliamentary Standing Committee

JAMMU, Aug 21: Jammu Civil Society, led by its Chairman CA Pardeep Gandotra has submitted a memorandum to Anand, Sharma, Chairman Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs, highlighting various issues and demands, particularly with regard to reviving economic and industrial growth in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Society pointed out that the fiscal incentives of State as well as Central Government have been diluted in post GST regime and only incentives of GST refund on the value addition was given to existing units. “There is a fear of unhealthy competition for existing unit holders from the new investors in J&K as the new investors will get the benefit of gross GST reimbursement of 300 per cent on the investment in plant & machinery and existing unit holders will find it difficult to survive,” explained the memorandum suggesting that the existing units should also be given matching GST incentives so that they can compete.
In the memorandum, the Society also suggested some turnover or employment based incentive for the export units, widening the scope of setting up units in service sector and infrastructure / facility providers, setting up of at least one mega manufacturing unit like metro / rail coach factory etc, setting up of defense production units through private participation under Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan mandatory purchase by Central/State Government Departments & Undertakings including Defence procurement of locally manufactured Goods and Services from J&K, simplification of land laws and framing a policy for grant of permission for change of land use through single window system, etc.
The Jammu Civil Society also stressed for developing modern housing colonies and new tourist destinations/ hill stations, taking steps to improve power situation in J&K, promoting quality education to make UT a major education hub, creating sports infrastructure for national as well as international competitions, framing user friendly and system driven policies for better work culture in J&K UT.
