JAMMU, Feb 19: In view of the scheduled visit of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other VVIPs to the city of temples tomorrow, authorities have designated Jammu District as a “no-drone zone.”
“Jammu District has been declared as no-fly zone (temporary red zone) for the drones and quad copters with effect from February 19, 2024 (6 pm) to February 20, 2024 (11 pm),” a handout issued by SSP Jammu, Dr Vinod Kumar said.
This precautionary measure, announced by SSP Jammu, falls under the jurisdiction of Section 22(2) of the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s Drone Rules-2021.
Under Rule 49 of the Drone Rules 2021, authorities are empowered to address contraventions of Rule 22 and Rule 27, which are deemed cognisable and non-compoundable offenses.
Additionally, District Magistrate Jammu, Sachin Kumar Vaishya, has implemented a ban on the sale, purchase, and use of firecrackers throughout Jammu District on February 20, 2024.
This decision, enforced under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) 1973, was taken in response to security concerns raised by both security forces and civilian sources.
The prohibition on firecrackers aimed at averting potential confusion among security personnel and the public, as well as to prevent any disruptions to the peace and order during the VVIP visit.
“This order is effective immediately and will remain in force until 5 pm on February 20, 2024. Violations of this order are subject to punitive action under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860,” read an order issued by District Magistrate, Jammu.
