JAMMU, Mar 11: Taking cognizance of the difficulties being faced by the residents of Jammu city, especially Gangyal and other adjoining areas of Gandhi Nagar constituency, former Minister and senior Congress leader, Raman Bhalla today said that it is a matter of serious concern that the residents of Jammu city have to face such a huge problem pertaining to ration supply in their areas.
He said that the complaints have been received from inhabitants of many areas that they are not being issued ration commodities from their respective Government ration depot.
Mr Bhalla also said that the ration quota has not been released by the CAPD Department despite depositing money with the department for the ration quota, but the ration supply in the whole Jammu city is totally held up due to unknown reason which as a result has caused hue and cry of people for need of ration commodities in Jammu city. Bhalla further stated that ration card holders are not being issued ration commodities as per specific scale fixed by CAPD Department.
The former Minister also joined protesters at Gangyal who were protesting against Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution Department’s failure to provide adequate ration to them and also issuing them wheat instead of flour. The protest was organized by Ex Corporator, Satish Sharma, Goutam Sharma, Om Parkash and others.
Protesters alleged that from the last few days, they have been holding protest demonstrations at various places against the authorities concerned for want of sufficient supplies. The protesters alleged that they were not getting adequate ration at Government run fair price shops.
Bhalla said the issue of various irregularities including shortage, poor quality, leakages and black-marketing of food grains should be taken care of immediately. Assurances were doled out every time to hold an inquiry, but no action was taken in view of powerful mafia operating in the department. He said despite several communiqués to the authorities concerned, no action had been initiated against delinquent officials and unscrupulous ration dealers who were causing huge loss to the State exchequer besides depriving bonafide beneficiaries and other BPL persons of the legitimate right to subsidize ration and food supplies.
