Jammu gangster arrested in Punjab

JAMMU, May 29: Gangster Rohit Rana alias Makkhan who was involved in April 2 Kathua shootout where a Sub Inspector of J&K Police lost his life and the kingpin of gang involved in a murder case at Ramgarh Samba was killed by police has been arrested in Jalandhar, Punjab today.
Anti Gangster Task Force (Punjab) AIG, Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar said that Gangster Rohit Makkhan, a resident of Jammu had relations with gangsters of Punjab who had shot dead a Sub Inspector of J&K Police in Kathua on April 2 and escaped. Since then he was hiding in Punjab.

AIG said the searches for him continued for a long time in association with Jammu Police. Today police surrounded the gangster in the same house in Jalandhar where he was hiding. Seeing that police has trapped him, he fired four bullets at the cops. Police asked him to surrender but he kept firing, the AIG added.
He said the gangster was injured after police retaliated the fire. Two pistols were recovered from the accused, he added.
The AIG further said that it is being investigated what type of links he had with the gangsters of Punjab. He said the gangster lived in the house of an elderly couple in Jalandhar for the past 10 days. The son of the elderly couple lives in Armenia. He stayed with them saying he would take care of them. Police is investigating the case. AIG expected more leads in coming days.
According to police, gangster has enmity with Vicky Sattewala. In that enmity, Makkhan had murdered a man and managed to run away from the scene. He left his car right there. Police recovered the car on the spot. Police had also got the driving license of the accused. Jammu police started investigation of his driving license.
AIG said police have registered a case of Arms Act 307/302/341, 3/25/27 under IPC section on 2nd April 2024 at Kathua Police Station. Few days after the case was registered, Makkhan had gone to Jammu again with one of his companions to get a new SIM card. Police surrounded him there so he fired at police.
A bullet was shot to SI Deepak Sharma by the gangster as police was chasing him. The SI died during treatment. Even in the case of murder of SI Deepak Sharma, Ramgarh police have registered the case under the Arms Act 302/148/149/212/120-B PC, 3/4/25 Arms Act.
