JAMMU, Sept 8: Newly framed Jammu Heritage Development Society comprising members from civil society and representatives from trade, social, education, legal organizations of the State, announced its 25-member committee here today.
Former Minister and president Dogra Saddar Sabha, Th Gulchain Singh Charak announced this committee at a press conference here today. The members also authorised Mr Charak to lead the new body, framed to act as watch dog on the functioning of various agencies involved in the conservation and preservation of historical Mubarak Mandi Heritage project and other heritage sites in Jammu region.
Members of the civil society during a marathon and brain storming meeting held on September 1, 2012, stressed the need to frame such a body which would keep watch on the heritage site projects including Mubarak Mandi which has been abandoned at present due to the reasons best known to the people at the helm of affairs. The society will also suggest measures for dealing with the heritage sites and fight to clear hurdles being created by some vested interests to sabotage historical Mubarak Mandi project.
Mr Charak pointed out that Chief Minister who is chairman of the Governing Body of the Mubarak Mandi Heritage Society, owes an answer to the people of Jammu as to why the work on this project has been stopped for the last over one year despite the fact that Centre has released enough funds and the DRPs also stood approved. He also said that rope way trolley be established from Mubarak Mandi base and not from Peer Kho as this change in the proposal seems to be yet another bit to sabotage the project and keeping tourists away from this heritage site of Dogras. He alleged that work on artificial lake over river Tawi and Gandola be expedited.
