JAMMU, April 23: Strong Jammu Janbaz team thrashed buoyant Poonch Thunderbolts by 9 wickets and entered the finals of the ongoing Jammu Premier League T20 Tawi Cup, being organized by Army in collaboration with Department of Youth Services and Sports under Operation Sadhbhavana at MA Stadium, here.
Now, in the summit clash, Jammu Janbaz will lock horns with the winner of the second semifinal match between star-studded Jammu Riders and Kathua Knights scheduled to be played tomorrow.
Earlier, Director Youth Services and Sports, Jaipal Singh interacted with the players of both the teams before having toss of coin to formally inaugurate the semifinal match.
The Director Sports was accompanied by Ashok Kumar, Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports (Central), SS Bali, Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports, Ravi Singh, Manager MA Stadium and Ashwani Gupta, former Duleep Trophy player and BCCI Match Referee, besides officers and officials of Army.
During the match, electing to bat first after winning the toss, Poonch Thunderbolts sailed on superb display of batting by openers Waseem Raja and Parvez Malik to score 81 runs in 11 overs without losing any wicket.
Elegant left-hander Waseem Raja top scored with 47 runs including 6 delectable boundaries, while swashbuckling Parvez Malik made quick-fire 45 runs in just 31 balls with the help of 3 fours and an equal number of sixes. However, after back-to-back dismissals of the opening pair, none of the batsmen could play sensibly to keep the tempo up and finally the team managed to score only 132 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 9 wickets in the process. Last nine overs fetched only 51 runs and witnessed the dismissal of all ten batsmen.
Left-arm spinner Sanjay Sharma was the wrecker-in-chief for Jammu Janbaz, who scalped 4 important wickets in his quota of 4 overs by conceding 21 runs, skipper Kavaljeet Singh and speedster Mayank Gautam captured 2 wickets each, while wrist spinner Deepak Singh Manhas claimed one wicket.
Jammu Janbaz, in reply rode on a splendid knock of unbeaten 83 runs by stylish left-handed opening batsman Manish Dogra to chase the target easily in eighteenth over, losing the wicket of in form Ashu only, thus won the match by 9 wickets.
Manish smashed 12 boundaries and one six in his 54-ball knock. Kavaljeet Singh also contributed valuable 34 unbeaten runs.
For Poonch Thunderbolts, Deepak Sharma was the only successful bowler, who took the wicket of Ashu. Manish Dogra of Jammu Janbaz team was adjudged man of the match for his brilliant knock.
The match was officiated by Saleem-ur-Rehman and Rajan Singh as umpires, Rajesh Dhar acted as match referee, while Pankaj Sasan and Kadirivian were the scorers.
