JAMMU, July 24: Seriously concerned over the long traffic jams on border road and wastage of so much of time and extra fuel, Jammu-Kathua area Passenger Bus Service Union today urged the JKUT Administration to repair damaged Tarnah bridge near Dyala Chak on Jammu-Kathua-Pathankot National Highway and allow movement of heavy goods vehicles/ trucks etc during night hours only to avoid long traffic jams.
An emergency meeting of the members of Jammu-Kathua Passenger Bus Service Union was held here today under the chairmanship of Kuldeep Singh, its president, in which the members expressed serious concern over the long traffic jams on border road from Chadwal Morh to Sanji Morh, Hiranagar, Londi-Rajpura in view of traffic diversion after damage caused to Tarnah bridge with flash flood few days ago. They said it takes normally 2 hours from Jammu to Kathua but now even the bus is not reaching in four hours. The students, government employees and general public is facing lot of hardships.
The buses are consuming extra fuel due to long traffic jams and condition of road from Jammu to Kathua has also turned worst due to construction works all over. They demanded that all the Toll Plazas be removed as road is not good and traffic worthy and moreover they are already paying Toll Tax to the Government. It is unjustified and illegal to charge double Toll Tax and moreover road is not smooth and good. They strongly demanded repair of damaged Tarnah bridge without any more delay.
They also demanded that trucks/ long trailers be allowed to move during night hours from 8 pm to 7 am on this border road stretch to ensure smooth movement of passenger traffic during the day. Moreover, some Kashmir bound traffic be diverted to Dhar Road from Lakhanpur.
