JAMMU, July 22: Jammu Mayor Rajinder Sharma presented the report card of Ward number 43 (Nanak Nagar) in a program here today.
Praising Councillor Surjeet Chowdhary (Pappu Chowdhary), the Mayor highlighted the remarkable achievements in the Ward, including the installation of 735 street lights and successful completion of civil works worth Rs 7 crore.
Additionally, he said, the ward has seen significant improvements in daily door-to-door garbage collection, sanitation services, and the facilitation of a record number of pensions. The eligible voters also benefited as voter cards were made readily available to them, said the Jammu Mayor.
During the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, he said, the ward received timely attention with sanitation and vaccinations being carried out, and medical kits being distributed to those in need.
The Mayor attributed these positive changes to the empowerment of local bodies, which was actively advocated by PM Modi. He pointed out that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supported this vision while other political parties opposed it.
Since the formation of the Corporation in 2018, the CAPEX budget of the local body has grown remarkably from Rs. 1.43 crore to Rs. 156 crore, indicating significant progress in local development initiatives.
Mayor Sharma emphasized that the public now realizes the benefits of having local bodies in place and acknowledged that the public representatives are taking better care of public issues and welfare.
Looking ahead, the Mayor expressed the public’s wish for the Corporation to continue addressing and resolving public issues while maintaining its focus on developmental works.
