JAMMU : With the Government going for sealing of unauthorised buildings in Srinagar and Katra-base camp of Mata Vaishno Devi, Jammu Municipal Corporation has notified 166 buildings as illegal in the State’s winter capital.
“166 cases have been registered as illegal constructions for the year 2013-14 as on January 31 this year,” Urban Development and Local Bodies Minister Rigzin Jora said in a written reply to the question of JKNPP member Harshdev Singh in the Legislative Assembly today.
Of these, only nine buildings had been demolished and 87 cases were subjudice, he said, adding that three buildings had also been sealed.
The Jammu & Kashmir High Court had asked the Government to seal illegal buildings in Srinagar and Katra areas of the State, and the Government accordingly undertook sealing operations in the two towns.
Jammu Municipal Corporation has also approved 13 building plans and 54 cases are under process.
In Kashmir Valley, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has demolished 180 illegal structures, removed 115 encroachments and sealed 53 commercial complexes and orders were issued to eight constructions for sealing, Jora said.
Moreover, action under the provisions of the Control of Building Act 1988 have been initiated against 209 violators who have raised the construction unauthorisedly, he said.
More than 1,400 cases regarding violation of building permission, master plan are under adjudication in different courts as on date. (PTI)
