No commercial activity to be allowed in JMC flats: Mayor

JAMMU, Dec 11: Mayor, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Chander Mohan Gupta, chaired the meetings of Finance and Planning and General Function Standing Committee(s) in the Conference Hall of JMC.
Commissioner, JMC, Pankaj Magotra was also present in the meetings. The meetings among others were attended by the members of the Finance and Planning Standing Committee viz . Ashok Singh, Sunita Koul, Anil Kumar Masoom, Miss Nidhi Mangotra, Neena Gupta and Gourav Chopra and members of General Function Standing Committee viz Dinesh Gupta, Miss Bhanu Mahajan, Neeraj Puri, S.Sucha Singh, Akshay Sharma, Anu Bali,Sunita Gupta and Surjeet Singh. Joint Commissioner (Adm.) Ashish Gupta being the Member Secretary of both the Standing Committees, Secretary, Sunaina Sharma, Assistant Commissioner (R) Prem Singh, Joint Commissioner (Works), Jaspal Singh, other senior officers and officials of JMC.
During the meetings, a number of decisions were taken for better functioning of Jammu Municipal Corporation. Mayor, JMC directed the concerned authorities to speed up the revenue collection by all the wings of JMC. He issued instructions that no commercial activity should be allowed in the flats of JMC and if any found the same should be sealed immediately. He also issued instructions to the authorities that encroachers should be penalized and sanitation wing should strictly monitor that no building material left at the construction site by the owner of the property. Notices should be issued to those commercial buildings that have no parking space in their premises.
He further directed the authorities that complaint/ suggestion registers at every accessible point in each ward, boosting garbage pickup facility at door step, Development of secondary garbage collection points at all major areas of the Municipal wards. Twin bins to be installed at Raghunath Bazar,Residency Road, Bus Stand,Airport Road,Talab Tillo Road and other main Bazars of the Jammu City.
Threadbare discussions were held in the meeting for enforcing complete ban on single use plastic where it was decided that intensive awareness programmes should be conducted in each ward with participation of Councillors of concerned ward, general public and other major stakeholders.
Mobile toilets to be installed in those areas where community toilets yet to be constructed. Penalty shall be imposed for open defecation, open urination and littering on roads.
Mayor issued instructions to Engineering Wing of JMC that a proposal should be framed for recycling of waste water within the limits of JMC to save river Tawi from effluents infested water. Beautification process of all the 75 wards of Jammu Municipal Corporation be started soon with the help of Councillors of the concerned wards. He also directed the Health Officer to issue notices to the plot owners who are dumping building material at their open plots.
