JAMMU, Aug 24: Residents of Ward No 60 of Jammu North Assembly segment today staged strong protest against the severe shortage of water supply.
Led by Uday Bhanu Chib, president Youth Congress Jammu and Kashmir and Hari Singh Chib, president DCC Jammu Rural, the local residents and party workers assembled at Main Road Paloura and blocked the road to mark their resentment against non-availability of water supply in the area for the more than seven days.
The protesters raised slogans against LG Administration and Jal Shakti Department for not showing serious concern towards the problems being faced by general public.
Talking to reporters, Uday Chib, president JKPYC said that it is highly condemnable on the part of the Government to take the issue of water scarcity callously knowing fully that this is the basic necessity constitute a matter of life and death for the people. He asserted that the people of North Assembly segment are decrying for regular water supply and for the last seven days the concerned department has deprived the people from drinking water supply.
Accusing the Government of not being able to come up with a contingency plan in advance despite this issue cropping its head for the past many summers, Chib said this yet again proves the gross failure of the BJP Govt which is misleading the people by making tall claims of its achievements. He said that the party and its Government having been totally exposed on all fronts will be taught a lesson by the people in the forthcoming Assembly elections.
Hari Singh Chib, DDC president Jammu Rural said that the present Government has miserably failed to ensure delivery of basic amenities like availability of ration, frequent supply of power and water. He termed it unfortunate that people were being subjected to immense suffering for want of basic amenities like power and water in absence of popular government in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that due to wrong policies of the Government, people are facing a crisis like situation. He demanded that the water of Lohan Tube well Paloura should be supplied to the residents of Paloura Ward No 60 for which it was constructed.
Senior leaders Som Nath Sharma, Chander Mohan Sharma, Satvir Singh, Shahbaj Khan, Baloria, Pritam Singh Bagal, Om Parkash, Surinder Singh, Tarun Vaid and others also joined.
