Jammu tourist destination

The Coalition Government, more particularly the Chief Minister himself, is evincing keen interest in making Jammu a tourist destination by creating structure that makes the City of Temples, a city for leisure tourism as well. Given her colourful history, heritage and social diversity, Jammu occupies special place in the tourist map of the State. These sentiments were expressed by no other person than the Chief Minister who was inaugurating the 25-kanal park on the bank of Tawi. He said that with Katra railway station becoming functional, some quarters in Jammu expressed apprehension that Jammu would lose its sheen as the fist important destination of pilgrim tourists. Actually such apprehensions were expressed by the business class of Jammu. The Chief Minster allayed all such fears and said that the Government will see to it that the tourists’ foot fall in Jammu is maintained. Jammu city has its cultural and historical importance. The Bahu Fort, the Mubarak Mandi Complex, the old city area and the new and sprawling institutions all contribute to the history of the heritage of Jammu. The Government is seriously pursuing all such plans as would have been floated to become a source of attraction for the tourists. The Jammu Ropeway, improvement of road traffic and connectivity, creating recreational parks and public places and giving a new shape to the entire city are among priority scheme of the Government. Taking name of some identified tourist destinations like Ranjit Sagar and Baghliar Dams, Sanasar, Marwah, Warhwan, Bhadarwah and Jai, the Chief Minister assured the audience that the Department of Tourism would be taking steps to upgrade and standardize the identified spots so that more and more tourist make these places their destination spot. The Chief Minister rightly said that widening of the National Highway and making it four-lanned, a project on which authorities are spending billions of rupees is bound to be a great incentive for the home and foreign tourists to visit the State. Jammu is justified in having pride in her rich heritage and the State Government is duty bound to preserve and develop these sites.
