Jammu University SC/ST Employees Association holds meet

JAMMU, Feb 20: Jammu University SC/ST Employees Association held a meeting under the chairmanship of its president RL Kaith and discussed various problems being faced by them.
Association members said that the reservation roster has several times been tampered by the Establishment Branch with an object to deprive the SC/ST staff to avail promotional benefits granted to them under the Constitution.
A number of representations submitted to the authorities for consideration have fetched no response from which it seems that the SC/ST staff has no effective say, they said, adding that their Association despite the only Government recognized body in the University has not been allotted accommodation for establishing its office though they wrote to the authorities for it many a times.
They further said that despite UGC’s instructions given to the University in 2008, no step has so far been taken to provide representation to SCs, STs in its competent bodies like University Council, University Syndicate, Academic Council, Establishment Committee, etc.
They appealed the Vice-Chancellor Prof MP Singh Ishar to direct the officers to look into their issues pertaining to maintenance of reservation roster, filling up of backlog posts of SCs, STs in promotions, release of arrears to Has, allotment of accommodation to Association for its office and representation of SCs, STs in higher bodies.
Among those who attended the meeting included Surinder Kumar Savotra, Surjeet Singh Heer, Om Parkash, Paras Ram, BR Angural, Sukhdev Bhagat and Kunj Lal Bhagat.
