Jammu Vascular Society organizes scientific session on venous thrombosis

JAMMU, Sept 24: Continuing with the aim regarding promotion of vascular surgery in Jammu region, Jammu Vascular Society organized a scientific session today on ever increasing clinical problem of venous thrombosis in patients.
The meeting was attended by the members of the Jammu Vascular Society and invited distinguished faculty and focused on presentation and discussion regarding a very important clinical condition of venous thrombosis with ways and means of early diagnosis, management and indication regarding newer techniques of interventions.
Prof Ashutosh Gupta (Principal and Dean, Government Medical College Jammu) was the guest of honor on the occasion. Members of the Jammu Vascular Society Dr Gurjit Singh, Dr Noor Ali, Dr Ishtayak Ahmad Mir, Dr Arvind Kohli, Dr Mohit Arora, Dr Vivek Gandotra, Dr Javed Bandey and Radiologist Dr Sohan Lal along with post graduate students and senior residents participated in the scientific session.
Dr Akansha Sharma highlighted the role of newer oral anticoagulants in management of deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism atrial fibriilation and prevention of stroke. Dr Samriti presented the indications of surgical intervention in deep vein thrombosis including CTD and mechanical thrombectomy and Dr Sohan Lal elaborated the role of early diagnosis of venous thrombosis by using duplex scan and various important signs for impending complications.
It was followed by healthy panel discussion regarding treatment of thrombosis in various categories of patient including cancer, paediatric age, etc.
Earlier, Dr Arvind Kohli thrombosis is a silent killer and 1 in 4 people worldwide are dying from conditions caused by thrombosis. Hence it is important to have early diagnosis of this serious condition and there have been rapid advances in management of thrombosis with latest medicines like newer oral anticoagulants and intervention procedures like mechanical thrombectomy (Angiojet and Penumbra).
