JAMMU, June 12: The irate residents of Jammu West Assembly Segment held a protest demonstration and blocked the Jammu Bantalab road at High Court Chowk Janipur outside the Power House in protest against the increasing power cuts in Jammu region in general and West Assembly Segment in particular.
The demonstration was led by the president of Jammu West Assembly Movement, Sunil Dimple who alleged that in spite of  high level meeting chaired by MoS Power, Vikar Rasool the power supply has not improved in Jammu region and people have to continuously reel under over 12 hour power cuts a day. The increasing power cuts have also led to water scarcity putting the people to many hardships, he added.
Dimple demanded construction of another Receiving Station of 50 mva at Janipur to tide over the power crisis in the Jammu West Constituency. He warned the Government that if power supply does not improve the people will not pay power tariff to PDD as Government had made a commitment that round the clock power  will be supplied in the metered areas.
Dimple in an appeal to Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh urged him to handover all the NHPC Hydro electric projects constructed in J&K to the State in view of the power crisis faced by the people here.
Holding the Chief Minister responsible for power crisis in Jammu region, Dimple said as Power Minister he failed to initiate action to improve the power supply in the State.
