Jammu’s religious places need to be developed to attract tourists: JPVM

JAMMU, May 22: Jammu Paryatan Vikas Mandal (JPVM), an apex body of more than 30 tourism related organizations, has stressed for upgradation and development of religious places of Jammu to make them point of attraction for the tourists.
Addressing a press conference, the newly elected chairman of JPVM, Inderjeet Khajuria, said that the main focus of Jammu Paryatan Vikas Mandal is no neglect of tourism in Jammu and every possible effort shall be made to make Jammu as independent tourist destination.
He further said that all the existing popular religious places of historical importance including Jamwant Guffa, Peerkho; Raghunath Ji Temple; Pehla Darshan Kol Kandoli, Nagrota and Kali Mata Ji Temple, Bahu Fort; are required to be upgraded and developed to the extent that the places become point of tourist attraction.
“The need of hour is that the said places must attain the level of tourist attraction for which wide publicity is required to be given by installing hoardings and flexes at every important places in general and at Lakhanpur to Jammu and Katra to Jammu in particular”, he added.
Expressing the serious concern over the delay caused in the completion of Jammu Tourism projects, he said that to make Jammu an independent tourist destination, these projects are required to be given top priority, so that these are commissioned at the earliest.
Mentioning about the plight of some places which can attract the tourists and pilgrims in Jammu, he said that the water bodies at Mansar, Saruinsar, and Gharana wet land besides Parmandal, Utterbehni have totally been neglected in the past and are required to be developed on all aspects including road connectivity and infrastructure.
Flanked by Rajesh Gupta (president) and Rajeev Gupta (general secretary), Khajuria said that Shri Amarnath Yatra is being commenced from July 2 and there is need for development of Yatri Niwas Base Camp at Bhagwati Nagar, which requires the renovation and expansion with all facilities to the yatries staying in the camps.
Alleging that due to non-payment of balance amount of Rs 20 crore to NBCC, the company is delaying to provide the sewerage connections to hotels and lodges in the old Jammu City area despite laying of entire sewerage network, he appealed Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh, to immediately release the balance amount in the favour of NBCC so that hotels get sewerage connections.
