Jamwal flags of 120 farmers tour to different areas

JAMMU, Mar 5: Director Agriculture Dr S S Jamwal today flagged off a batch of 120 farmers belonging to different areas of Jammu district for an inter district exposure visit under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojna (PMKSY).
The farmers will visit Krishi vigyan Kender (KVK) Kathua, Dry land Research Station Rakh Dhinsar and Dry Land Fruit Research Station Raya to study the irrigation status , potential and technology to enhance water use efficiency on farms.
While interacting with farmers Director Agriculture revealed that the Exposure visit has been organized to sensitize the farmers about the objectives and impact points of the scheme. He said in context of global warming tendencies and depletion of water resources there is a great need to further modernize agriculture on scientific lines through adoption of micro -irrigation and other water saving technologies.
The farmers were informed that during the exposure visit they will get education through demonstrations on protected vegetable cultivation, moisture, conservation, micro irrigation for higher water use efficiency with the use of precision water application devices like drips, sprinkles pivots and in the farms at Rakh Dhinasar and KVK Kathua.
A K Malhotra Joint Director Agriculture, Extension, Sudesh Koul Joint Director Inputs, R L Bhagat Chief Agriculture Officer and others were also present and they too interacted with farmers.
