JAMMU, Dec 10: K S Jamwal, former Deputy Director General, Geological Survey of India, has been nominated as one of the expert members of a technical team to inspect Afghan India friendship dam in Herat province of western Afghanistan.
The team from New Delhi will leave for Kabul tomorrow. Jamwal, remained associated with this dam right from its inception in 2006 till its completion in 2016.
This dam has been constructed free of cost by the Govt of India for the people of Afghanistan as a goodwill gesture and friendship. It was inaugurated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. After handing over this dam to Afghani engineers in 2016, it is mandatory to inspect this dam periodically by the experts from India for its safety measures.
The dam is 105 mts high, earth and rock fill, on river Hari Rud in Herat province adjoining Iran. This is one of the highest dams in Afghanistan with a length of 551 mts.
